THE GOLDEN CROSS OF THE CREATIVES DIASPORA+REMEMBERING THE DREAM OF THE ANIMALS

 

A CROSS MEDIA PERFORMANCE INSTALLATION  OF JOHN BERRY

HAPPIHUONE-TOOLONLAHTI, HELSINKI , FINLAND

and

THE MILITANT  BOURGEOISE/EXISTENTIALISTS RETREAT, A10 OVERPASS, STADELIJK MUSEUM AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS

 

Both of these werks originate from the conceptual symbol of the golden cross of the creatives diaspora. A symbol given to the artist in the summer of 2006 to express:

THE GOLDEN CROSS OF THE CREATIVES DIASPORA

A cross for the creative, a cross for the pioneer, a cross for the newly born, and the dying, the refugee, the prisoner of conscience, the homeless , a cross for the non-violent,

A cross for the lover of god and goddess found in man and woman, a cross for the two spirited and lovers of any gender, a symbol for those that cannot kill for dogma, a cross for those damaged by religions, a symbol of the downtrodden, a symbol for the falsely imprisoned, a cross for those that have been ridiculed and oppressed for their innovation, a cross for the persecuted and the ailing, a symbol for the bright and unindoctrinated mind and purity of spirit, a cross of the love that all of the enlightened beings and manifestations of god have spoken of: jesus and martin luther king, margaret meade, rumi, hafiz, mother teresa, malvina reynolds, walt whitman and the buddha spirit in everyone, who spoke of and to:

a symbol for the  beauty of craftsmanship called prayers, in ancient languages,

of the natural world

of the animals

for the melodies of harmony in the wild and the people that dwell there in wildness,

for the ferociousness of clear unobstructed thought, for those in awe and ecstatic states-

for redemption from the blasphemy of man’s deceit, a symbol to reclaim and proclaim

a cross of love when there is no other choice,

of forbearance and refuge and forgiveness and

gentleness and fortification

of bigger thoughts and action and protection

a cross to encourage and ground a new reality

a new heaven and earth

a cross of laughter and healthy sexuality and positive expressive being

a symbol of resistance

a cross of truth that comes from all of this and more

a humanity and portal.

 

 

This symbol was installed along with a buried effigy at the militant bourgeoise/existentialist retreat-Amsterdam, Netherlands on the 21 and 22 of September 2006- until January 2007

The symbols variant, remembering the dream of the animals was performed and created on the autumnal equinox 2006 in Helsinki, at  o2 helsinki, part of a sustainability project that has been ongoing, the installation consists of gold leafed animal effigies installed, or ‘planted’ into the earth, wetlands marsh and lakes of the site, where they will ‘grow’ and run into perpetuity.
